Ahh yes. Kennedy Park in Miami. Rickenbacker Causeway to Key Biscayne. Burning quads, searing calf muscles. Gotta love climbing. We started out at a good pace again. Make one big mistake on East to West Climb- Roy jumped on his big gear and I was slow to react. I had to LOOK UP to get a bearing on him to catch him and that was the WORST mistake- looking up a hill. Felt like I hit neutral. I ended up being the 5th one over the crest out of 11 riders. The ride out to Biscayne Village was excellent. I led the paceline in to and over the small bridge, then let the rest of the group work a little. I was all pumped to get a great climb over Rickenbacker, then someone in front of me had their chain pop off the front chainring just as we started the climb. There were riders on each side of me, so I had no choice but to not go around and wait until it was clear and I lost all of my momentum. Hence I suffered. I recovered well enough on east side of bridge to bring us back to Kennedy Park.
Looking forward to next week and 17th Street Causeway in Fort Lauderdale |
